Jerome Stanley Pesek

Jerome Stanley Pesek, 85, of Hallettsville, passed away Friday, July 21, 2023. 

He was born in the St. Mary’s Community on Aug. 9, 1937, to Charles and  Bohdanka Pesek.  

He served in the United States Army for two years and was stationed at Ellison Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska.  

After serving in the army, he returned to Hallettsville and worked for Shell Oil Company for 29-½ years before retiring in 1990.  Upon retiring, he continued to live on the Pesek farm where he grew up.  He raised cattle and enjoyed playing golf.  

Jerome was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  He also was involved with the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, KJT, Men’s ACTS Retreat, St. Mary’s Finance Committee and St. Mary’s Picnic Committee. 

Jerome is survived by three brothers, Daniel Pesek and wife, Helen of East Bernard;  Rev. Anthony Pesek and Paulie Pesek, both of Hallettsville; brother-in-law, Joe Janda of El Campo; 16 nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and  nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.  

Jerome was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Helen Schindler and Mildred Janda; brother-in-law, John Schindler; sister-in-law, Anita Pesek; a nephew and a niece.

Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, July 27 at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville. Rosary will be recited at the funeral beginning at 7 p.m. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, July 28 at  St. Mary’s  Catholic Church west of Hallettsville. Msgr. John Peters will officiate.

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Janda, Dwayne, Doug and Tim Pesek, and Michael and  Ronnie Schindler.  

Honorary pallbearer will be Jimmy Grahmann.

Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic School, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hospice of South Texas or a charity of donor’s choice.
