Joe Lee Hauschild

Joe Lee Hauschild was born in Harlingen, Texas on January 3,1944 to Dorothy Pool Hauschild and Reuben Hauschild. He passed away on January 7, 2026, after a brief illness, at home surrounded by his children, Amy, Mandy, and Chad in Del Valle, Texas.
He was able to enjoy his favorite Blue Bell homemade vanilla ice cream on his 82nd birthday, with his children, and listened to Italian music.
He graduated from Harlingen High School in 1962, and joined the Air Force in 1964, retiring in 1986, after 23 years. His military service took him to New Mexico, Alaska, Thailand, Arizona, Texas, Kansas, North Dakota, Illinois, and southern Italy twice, which turned out to be his favorite assignment.
After retiring from the Air Force, he held several different jobs before training as a Solar Analyst and returning to Italy to work at the Solar Observatory at San Vito Air Station from 1999-2006. He then settled in Riverview, Florida before eventually moving back to Shiner, Texas.
Joe was an avid tennis player, playing on his high school team, and participated in tournaments in Italy and Germany while in the Air Force.
He had a passion for classic cars, Italian motorcycles, photography, and had an eclectic taste in music. He also loved watching the Antique Road Show.
Joe was a deacon at Shiner Baptist Church, sang in the church choir, enjoyed bible study, and taking care of the church lawn. He still maintained friendships from elementary school and high school, attending class reunions when he was able. He was always offering to transport friends and help them in any way he could.
He was a devoted Dad, who was always there for his kids and grandkids, and will fondly remember his humor.
The 15 years he spent living and working in Italy left an impression on him that he would carry throughout his life. He still dreamed about Italy and had hoped to return. He would often reminisce about going to the piazza, people watching outside his favorite bar, listening to live folk music, eating the delicious food, and visiting with his friends. A simple life.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Amy Hauschild of Del Valle, TX and her children, Kory, Erin, and Sydney; daughter, Mandy Bowkett of Alexandria, VA and her daughter, Laura Magnan; and son, Chad Hauschild of Lutz, FL and his children, Cole and Amber.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Loretta Washington, John Hauschild, Hattie Height, and Reuben Jr.
