John A. Matula

John Anthony Matula, 91, of Shiner, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday, August 21 at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 22 at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Shiner Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Kevin Matula, Lance Seavey, John Matula, Matt Pierce, T.J. Matula, Kyle Rumfolo, Russell Schlenker, Caleb Matula, Jeff Matula and Darren Matula.
Honorary pallbearers are Gavyn Seavey, John Michael Matula, Lane Pierce and Bryce Rumfolo.
Arrangements are under the direction of Thiele- Cooper Funeral Home, Yoakum.
He was born December 10, 1931 in Ezzell, and was the last of the six children born to John and Frances (Michna) Matula.
He was married to his beloved Willie “Belle” (Gloger) Matula and they were blessed with five children. He was a member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church and he and his wife worked to send all five children on to graduate from Shiner Catholic School.
John began working at Boehm Tractor as a mechanic in 1954 and retired after 40 plus years of service.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Kay Matula and Michelle Schlenker (Garland), all of Shiner; brothers, twin Mike Matula of Shiner, Eddie Matula (Renee) of Ezzell and Mark Matula (Ruby) of Westoff; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and special friend, Eva Maeker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Belle Malina in 2015; his parents; sisters, Josephine Klimitchek, Frances Holley and Margaret Timm; brothers, Joe Matula and Louis Matula; and grandson, Keith Matula.
Memorials may be given to Shiner Catholic School or Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church.
