Julius V. Janca

Julius V. Janca, 94, of Hallettsville, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023. 

He was born on Feb. 11, 1929, in Lavaca County to Joe Sr. and Pauline (Mozisek) Janca.  

On July 24, 1951, he married Geraldine Mertz in Lovington, New Mexico. She passed away Sept. 3, 2018.  

His schooling included Thompson, Wied and Brown School.  He lived in the St. Mary’s Community, and  was a Catholic.

Julius and Geraldine lived in Edna, Port Lavaca, Ganado and Hallettsville.  He retired from Alcoa and continued to raise cattle on the farm, enjoyed reading and watching westerns.  They enjoyed deer hunting in Sanderson each year with family and friends.  

Julius moved to Stevens Nursing Home about 1-½ years ago and was thankful for all they did for him.

Julius is survived by his sons, Glenn (Mary Ann) Janca and Paul Janca (Kim Earwood); his daughters, Barbara Scull, Joyce (Ronnie) Jackson, Marsha (Russell) McNeal, Michelle Janca; son-in-law, Dwayne Holt; sister, Margaret Henneke; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and six  great-great-grandchildren.

Julius was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; his parents; daughter, Kathy Holt; daughter-in-law, Cassie Janca; son-in-law, Hall Scull; great- grandson; brothers, Leon, Joe Jr., Jerome and James Janca, and sister, Evelyn Hruzek.

Visitation began at 5  p.m., Thursday, June 22  at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville. 

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 23 at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville. Deacon Michael Tankersley officiated. 

  Pallbearers were Shane Hebert, Alex Holt, Byron Pekar, Cody Pekar, Gary Hebert and Chris Janca. 

Honorary pallbearers were Matt McClellan and Marlin Pekar. 

Burial followed in the Hallettsville City Cemetery. 

 Memorials may be made to a charity of donor’s choice.
