Laverne L. Valis

Laverne Lanell Valis, 87, of Shiner, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023.
Visitation was held from 4:30-6 p.m. Friday, September 29 followed by a prayer service at 6 p.m. at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 30 at Shiner Lutheran Church, with Pastor Chris Heinold officiating.
Burial followed at Shiner Cemetery under the direction of Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home, Yoakum.
Pallbearers were Angel Toro, Austen Valis, Kenneth Bohuslav, John Hoelter, Randy Fojt and Scott Fojt.
She was born March 27, 1936 in Shiner, to Edwin and Leona Schroeder Pfeil.
She worked at Kaspar Wire Works, First National Bank and with her husband at M.E.R. Exchange. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, flowers, hummingbirds and planning holiday celebrations with her family. She was a member of Shiner Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, John Valis; daughter, Debra Valis (Angel Toro); son, Gary Valis (Paulette); and grandchildren, Collin Valis, Austen Valis, Michelle Toro and Erin Toro.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother; half-sister, Sharon Behrends; and half-brother, Richard Pfeil.
Memorial contributions may be given to Shiner Lutheran Church, Hospice of South Texas or Golden Crescent Food Bank.
