Margarete Emilie Appelt

 Margarete Emilie Appelt, 82, of Hallettsville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022.  

She was in Kaiserslautern, Germany born on Aug.  7, 1940, to Karl Jacob Sprenger and Emilie Marie Diehl Sprenger.  

When Margarete reached the age of 22, she met a soldier with the US Army by the name of Magdaleno Garcia. In November of 1962, they were married.

She became a U.S. citizen in 1993.  She began to volunteer at the Senior Citizen Center, and she joined the VFW Ladies Auxiliary serving as president for many years.  

In 2002, she met Dennis Appelt through her volunteer work and they married in August 2004.  

Margarete was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Magdaleno Garcia (married 1962-2000) and Dennis Appelt (married in 2004-2009); son, Karl Wilhelm Garcia; sisters, Anna Sprenger, Erna Wenneman, Imgard Bach, Lore Jacob; brother, Wilhelm Sprenger; cousin, Olga Grieger, and her beloved son-in-law, Ruben Garza.

Margarete is survived by four daughters; 1 son; 13 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation began at 5 p.m. and continued until 7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 16 at Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville. 

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 17 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sublime. Pastor Herb Beyer officiated. 

  Burial followed at Geiger Cemetery in Sublime.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Hospice of South Texas or a charity of donor’s choice.
