Mary Evelyn Lickliter VanPelt

Mary Evelyn Lickliter VanPelt, 84, of Hallettsville, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024 at DeTar Hospital in Victoria. 
She was born on June 11, 1939, in Baltimore, Maryland to Lewis Bryant Lickliter and Mary Susan Noone.  
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.
Mary was a past employee of Weingarten Grocery in Houston and a dedicated thirty-year employee of Walmart in Hallettsville.  She was one of the very first employees hired when Walmart opened in Hallettsville.
Mary is survived by her husband of 49 years, James “Jimmy” VanPelt; one sister; four sons; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Lewis, stepmother,  Gladys; grandson, Nicholas VanPelt; daughter-in-law, Peggy VanPelt; brother-in-law, Ed Long, and niece, Beckly DeMoss.
Visitation began at 9 a.m. and the rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, March 16 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville.
Celebration of the Funeral Mass followed at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Msgr. John Peters, and Deacon Anthony “Red” Hensley officiated.
Burial followed at the Speaks Cemetery.
Memorials (in lieu of flowers) may be made to   MD Anderson Cancer Center, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Maintenance Fund in Hallettsville,  or a charity of the donor’s choice.
