Matthew Fischer

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Matthew Fischer, beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. Matt departed this life peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
He was born on June 12, 1983, in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, to Kenneth and Charlene Fischer joining his two older sisters, Nicole and Stephanie. He lovingly called the greater Milwaukee area home in Wisconsin until he enlisted in the United States Army and departed for boot camp in 2004.
After completing boot camp, he was sent to Fort Hood, Texas to proudly join the 1st Cavalry Division, 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment (2-5 CAV). During his service, he met and fell in love with Laura Gloor shortly before deploying to Iraq in 2006. He returned home in 2008 and later married his love in 2012.
They built a life together in Georgetown with their two crazy dogs, Olive and Packer, surrounded by close friends and neighbors until they moved to Taylor and welcomed their beloved son, Grant, in 2016. The entire Fischer crew eventually uprooted and moved to the Gloor family home in Shiner when it was time for Grant to begin kindergarten in 2021.
Matt’s giving and generous spirit touched the lives of those he loved. Known for his strength and compassion, Matt brought laughter and a fun, silly vibe to moments spent with Grant, especially during their science experiments, joke exchanges, movie nights, and Mario Kart races.
A true tinkerer at heart, Matt loved nothing more than fixing or improving things—always seeking ways to make life better for those he cared about. His love for animals, especially Olive, was evident in the true ease and connection he felt in their presence. Matt’s pets or even temporary pets always knew they could count on him as the designated treat distributor in the household.
As a devoted Green Bay Packers fan, Matt cheered passionately (sometimes too passionately) for the green and gold. Going out for a drive was one of his favorite pastimes, offering opportunities for reflection and connection. He would make a handful of stops on his drives, one of which would always be for flowers to bring home to Laura and a special treat or toy to bring home to Grant.
Special occasions were kicked off bright and early with Matt’s signature deluxe waffles for Grant—a tradition that will be cherished forever. Above all, Matt will be remembered for his compassion, humor, strength, and generosity. His legacy lives on in the memories shared, the laughter echoed, and the love of his family.
Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Laura Gloor Fischer; son, Grant Fischer; mother, Charlene Fischer; sisters, Nicole Fischer and Stephanie Fischer; nephews, Nathan, Zachary, Dylan, and Ole; nieces, Elle, Pia, Nella, and Kosmos; grandmother-in-law, Carla Berry; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carol and Howard Gloor; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ashley and Kent Ibsen.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ken Fischer; and nephew, CJ Bohman.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, November 8 at Shiner Lutheran Church, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and funeral services beginning at 2 p.m., with Rev. Chris Heinold officiating.
An inurnment will follow in the Shiner Cemetery, concluding with a reception at the Shiner Lutheran Church.
