She was born on February 23, 1936 in Houston, to Robert Leland Coons and Elizabeth Daisy Coles Coons. She married George M. Martinsen, Jr. on September 10, 1955 in Houston. Nancy was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.
Nancy loved serving the church in many ways including serving as a Roman Catholic Catechism teacher for many children in Belle Chasse, Louisiana at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and in Shiner at Sts. Cyril & Methodius. During the course of their marriage for over 64 years, Nancy and George were well known for welcoming everyone they met to come stay at their home or swim in their pool, and indeed many did.
While Nancy grew up in the generation where “children should be seen, but not heard”, her warm-hearted nature towards children made them know that “kids are people too”. She loved children and worked tirelessly to protect the lives of the unborn children of God so that they could have a chance to be a “child of grace and wisdom”.
Survivors include her loving family; daughters, Regina Dick of the Woodlands and Ramona Persons of Mandeville, LA; sons, Hollis Martinsen (Patricia) of Pearland and Ron Martinsen (Moon Hee) of Renton, WA; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George M. Martinsen Jr.; sons, George Martinsen III and Gerald Martinsen; her parents; sisters, Shirley Warbasse, Sally Hauser, Zola Hurley and Nola Hager; and brother, Robert Coons.
Memorials may be made to Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.
