Phyllis Willyn (Lyn) Stindt

Phyllis Willyn (Lyn) Stindt was born on December 10, 1939, to the late Markus and Williben Ploeger of Yoakum, Texas as their only child.
Lyn passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023 after a lengthy illness at her home in Alvin, TX being assisted by her son and Hospice care.
She was born at Saint Jospeh Hospital in downtown Houston, Texas. Her parents lived in LaPorte, Texas at the time working for Standard Oil. Later, they moved to the Ploeger family farm on FM 682 in Yoakum when, Markus created Ploeger water well drilling company known in neighboring cities and private users. The equipment was ultimately sold to the Friedel Drilling Company. Her father Markus and grandparents. Ludwig and Clara, lived on the second floor while operating the Ploeger Creamery. This is the same Building today as the H & H Cafe and Bakery.
Lyn was in Tom Tom Royalty while in high school and at the age of eight. She married William Stindt of Shiner in 1961 who coincidentally was a member of her Tom Tom court in 1947. Also, Lyn was a Drum Majorette for the Yoakum High School band and drove a Crosley car. She took twirling lessons at TCU and had scholarship offers to be a featured Golden Girl in the Purdue band. However, she remained at TCU to finish her degree and later retired as an elementary school teacher in Texas.
Lyn’s genealogy is certified back to Sarah and Dr. John Woodson, who was educated at St. John’s College at Oxford, the surgeon sent to Jamestown Colony Settlement in Virginia in 1609. Included ancestry is with the Republic of Texas history through James Hodges Sr. who settled in Gonzales County while still Mexican territory in 1835. Mr. Hodges provided supplies for the Texas Army in 1836 and buried their valuables to leave during the Runaway Scrape. Lyn was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Most of her life was spent in Yoakum, Fort Worth, and Alvin, Texas as a student, teacher and in retirement. Lyn will be remembered for her time as Tom Tom Royalty, drum majorette, Texas educator, and a loving mother.
Lyn is survived by her son, Mark Barrett Stindt and daughter, Jana Lyn Stindt Johnson (Richard) of Arvada, CO; grandchildren, Lynsey Nicole Johnson and Lauren Elaine Johnson; and father of her children, William Stindt.
She was preceded in death by grandson, Markus Laine Johnson of Arvada, CO; and parents, Markus and Williben Ploeger of Yoakum.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1 at Yoakum Oak Grove Cemetery, with Pastor Warren Hornung officiating.
