Robert Glenn Cowan Sr.

Robert Glenn Cowan, Sr., 68,  of Gonzales, passed away suddenly August 27, 2022 at home.

Robert was born December 20, 1953 to William Baxter and Juanita Cowan in the Midway community of Lavaca County. He grew up in Midway along with his 5 brothers and sister and attended Shiner High school, where he graduated in 1972.  He worked for Better Beverages in Hallettsville and Johnson Oil in Gonzales where he retired from a few years ago.

Robert was a charismatic, intelligent, jack of all trades who could fix or build anything he put his mind to.  He was a good and caring man who took pride in his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.  Friends and family were always entertained for hours listening to him tell the numerous jokes that he knew.  He had a whit, timing and delivery that would ensure to keep you laughing for hours.  Robert loved spending time in the great outdoors.  His annual trip hunting by Enchanted Rock with his friends and sons was something he looked forward to every year.  He was a good friend; always there when one of his friends needed him.  He volunteered at St. John every year making fried chicken every Fourth of July after being asked to help one year long ago.  Robert also took pride in his home; spending countless hours perfecting the yard, making sure the house and garage were in prime condition and cultivating beautiful gardens.  His touch is everywhere on that property; his meticulous nature, his patience, his vision; all can be seen when visiting his home.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mildred Drexler Cowan, sons Bobby (Melanie) and Jason (Teresa) Cowan and their mother Linda; daughters, Kimberly Marrs and Lori Cowan and their mother Guyla; stepson, Brian (Erika) Baker, 13 grandchildren, along with brothers, Bill, John and Kenneth Cowan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and Richard and sister Patsy.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home in Yoakum.  Visitation starts at 9 am with Services at 9:30. Burial is at their private mausoleum for immediate family only.

Pallbearers are grandsons Garrett Cowan, James Marrs, and nephews Justin Cowan, Cullan Cowan, Michael Cowan, Russell Cowan, Cole Cowan, and Jacob Cowan.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Rifle Association, American Heart Association, or donor’s choice in Robert’s name would be appreciated.
