Robert J. Buske

Robert James Buske (Bobby), 76, originally of Shiner, died on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, in Mansfield, Texas.
He was born on July 29, 1947, in Shiner, to Hertha Emilie Liebhafsky Buske and James Fertsch Buske. His mother immigrated with her family from Austria as a baby. Bobby’s father was a cotton ginner at Buske Gin, as were his grandfather and great uncle. Growing up, Bobby was an Eagle Scout, Lone Star Farmer, and football captain for three years. He graduated from Shiner High School in 1965.
A proud member of the class of ‘69 from Texas A&M University, Bobby was a Mechanical Engineering major, a member of the Corp of Cadets F-1 Company, and a member of the Ross Volunteers. He was also a Senior class officer and commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army, where he attained the rank of Captain. In 1971, he received a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering.
For over 50 years, he worked as an engineer at Hughes Tool Company, Elk Corporation, Kaspar Wire Works, and retired from Hughes Christenson. During these years, he was awarded over 30 U.S. Patents. In later life, Bobby loved cruising and spending time with his two granddaughters who called him “Aggie.”
Bobby is survived by his daughter, Emilie Buske Ferman and husband Jeremy of Mansfield; granddaughters, Cecily and Rosalind; first wife, Shirley Wells of Mansfield; sister, Irene Buske Cerny and husband Gene of Shiner; nephew, Mitchell Cerny and wife Robin of Shiner; great-niece and great-nephews, Riley, Dylan, and Drake Cerny, all of Shiner; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and second wife, Mary Smith Buske.
Bobby wanted his body to be donated to science, and his ashes scattered over relatives’ graves in Old Kinkler Cemetery.
A private family ceremony will be held at a later date.
