Roy Pfuhl

Roy Ed Pfuhl, 82, of Shiner, passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by loved ones, on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
Roy was born on January 18, 1943, in Orange Grove, Texas, to Edwin and Lillie (Stratmann) Pfuhl. He was a proud Orange Grove Bulldog, even though he later graduated in Shiner, a town he chose as his homestead and where he spent the remainder of his life building a legacy rooted in hard work, humor, and love.
On September 6, 1965, Roy married the love of his life, Evelyn Jo Baker, at Shiner Lutheran Church. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and devotion. Roy was the kind of man who would give you the moon if it were possible.
A true hard worker, Roy took great pride in his livestock and homestead. He loved working with his hands, whether he was building birdhouses, fixing what was broken, or finding a way to make something work again. Known for telling the greatest though not always the cleanest jokes, Roy brought laughter wherever he went and could always be counted on to brighten the room.
Roy spent a good portion of his working years driving a 7-Up truck, delivering beverages, fruits, and cheeses throughout the surrounding communities and as far as the Rio Grand Valley. He valued honest work and took pride in providing for his family through dedication and perseverance.
Fishing and football were among Roy’s favorite pastimes, especially Shiner Comanche football. Even when he couldn’t attend games in person, he made sure to listen on the radio, never missing a moment if he could help it.
Roy is survived by his loving children, Diana Pfuhl (Tim), Donna Kuchynka (Kenneth), Richard Pfuhl, Carolyn Pauler (Clarence), Katie Pfuhl and Christy Brosch (Damian); grandchildren, Tyler, Chelsea, Alyssa, Will, Logan, Chasity, Ava, Destiny, Dagan and Dayson; eleven great-grandchildren; and his loyal four-legged companion, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn Pfuhl; son, Ronald Pfuhl; his parents, Edwin and Lillie Pfuhl; brother, Richard Pfuhl; and sister, Laurie Nell Pfuhl.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 9 at the Shiner Lutheran Church, with Pastor Kay Johnson officiating.
Interment followed in the Shiner Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tyler Pfuhl, Will Irle, Ava Mitchell, Dagan Pfuhl, Stephan Hahn, Wesley Pauler and Shawn Jones.
Honorary pallbearers were his remaining grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with his close friend Tony Spann and his remaining classmates from Orange Grove, Texas.
