Victor B. Caka

Victor Bernard Caka, 88, of Shiner, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
He was born on August 6, 1936, in Hochheim, to Jim and Ida Caka. Victor was a mechanic by working trade, but he was a man of many talents. He was a musician at heart, playing tuba and accordion with The Shiner Hobo Band, Litt’l Fisherman, Village Brass Band, Bohemian Dutchman Band, The Polkatimers and The Victor Caka Band.
He was also quite the repairman for accordions. He built a reputation with the local polka bands and people from all over who asked him to tune and repair their squeezeboxes. In 2016, he was inducted into the Texas Czech Musicians Hall of Fame.
From 1955 to 1968, Victor served in the National Guard, proudly serving our country. He also loved his community and enjoyed working with others to make a difference. Victor was a member of the KJT Catholic Union of Texas, and the St. Isidore Society. He was also an active member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.
Above all, he was a proud husband, father and grandfather. He leaves his family with many fond memories of his love for them and with the love of his music to remember him by.
Victor is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dolores Anna Holub Caka; his children, Donna Jahn (Larry) and Noreen Fojt (Randy), all of Hallettsville, and Kenneth Caka (Robbie) and Leonard Caka (Mechelle), all of Shiner. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Betty Caka of Shiner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Wagner (Rudie); and brothers, Edmund Caka (Marie) and Edward Caka.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 18 at Shiner Funeral Home, with a holy rosary recited at 7 p.m.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.
