2024 YHS Lady Bulldogs Basketball Team

The Lady Bulldogs basketball team beat Palacios and lost to Edna in district action last week.

Madison Gonzales scored 14 points and Jayana Phillps made 11 points as the Lady Bulldog defeated Palacios 47-32 at home Jan. 9.

The Lady Bulldogs were ahead 30-27 to start the fourth quarter and went on a 17-5 run to confirm the win. The Lady Bulldogs led 18-12 after one quarter and 23-17 at halftime before Palacios went on a 10-7 run in the third quarter. For the Lady Bulldogs, Gonzales had three rebounds and one steal. Jayla Hessler had one rebound. Olivia Fojt added six rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Destiny Rios had five rebounds and three steals. Hanna Garvin contributed two rebounds and one assist. Taylor Velek had two rebounds. Phillips had nine steals, five rebounds, and four assists. Devaeh Rios had four steals, two rebounds, and one assist. Amori Harper made five rebounds, two blocked shots, and had one assist. Aaliyah Wildrey had three rebounds and three steals.

Phillips netted 19 points to spearhead the Lady Bulldogs, but they fell short to the Cowgirls 47-38.

Edna took a 12-4 lead in the first quarter and the Lady Bulldogs scored 12 of 23 points in the second quarter to cut Edna’s lead to a 23-16 at the break.

The Cowgirls went on a 13-6 run in the third period and the Lady Bulldogs scored 16 points to the Cowgirls’ 11 points.
