Bulldogs lose against Cobras in seeding game for fourth place

    Last week, Yoakum split the series with Columbus and played Industrial in Victoria April 28 to determine fourth place with the ‘Dogs coming up short to the Cobras to finish the season.

    INDUSTRIAL 5, YOAKUM 1

    The Cobras scored four runs in second inning and went to defeat the Bulldogs 5-1 on Monday night to claim fourth place in district.

    Industrial took a 5-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning and Yoakum scored one in the bottom of the inning.

    Garrett Green was the top batter, going 2-for4 with one run; Bryce Mercer went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

    Brenten Jacob pitched 4 1/3 innings with six hits, five runs, four walks and three strikeouts. Bradley Jacob closed with 2 2/3 innings, two hits and a walk.

    Sutton Pavliska made five putouts in the field.

    COLUMBUS 6, YOAKUM 2

    Yoakum scored one run in each of the first and third innings for a 2-0 lead before the Cardinals scored four in the fourth inning and two in the sixth inning to rally for a 6-2 win April 22 in Columbus.

    At the plate for Yoakum, Green went 2-for-3 for runs and a double.

    Brenten Jacob pitched 4 1/3 innings, four runs, two hits, five walks and five strikeouts; Bradley Jacob went 2/3 inning, one hit, two runs, three walks and a strikeouts. Brett Lerch worked one inning with two walks.

    Pavliska made seven putouts and had one assist.

    YOAKUM 7, COLUMBUS 6

    Down 6-5 to start the bottom of the seventh inning, Yoakum prevented the Columbus sweep by scoring two runs for a 7-6 victory Friday in Yoakum.

    Columbus outscored Yoakum 3-1 in the first frame and the Bulldogs returned the favor in the second inning for a 4-4 game. Yoakum took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the third; the Cardinals scored twice in the fourth inning.

    At the plate, Trae Cuellar was 2-for-4 with run and two RBI; Bradley Jacob hit 2-for-3 with three runs, and Brett Lerch was 1-for-2 with run, RBI and triple.

    Green allowed two hits, three runs and two walks; Owen Blanco pitched four innings with three runs and six walks; Bradley Jacob tossed for three squares with three hits and three strikeouts. Pavliska had five putouts.
