Columbus wins Jr. League World Title

With the help of two girls from Sacred Heart Catholic School, the Columbus Jr. League AllStars defeated Evergreen Park, Ill. 2-0 Saturday in the title game in the tournament held in Kirkland, Wash.

Paelyn Etzler pitched a two-hitter, walked one and struck out 11 in going the distance.

Columbus scored all its runs in the first inning on RBI singles by Etzler and Taylor Hopkins.

Columbus 16, Italy 2 (5)

Columbus run-ruled Milano Italy, 16-2, Thursday.

Paelyn Etzler was the starting and winning pitcher. Etzler worked three frames and ceded three hits, walked one and struck out five.

Columbus gathered 19 hits. Etzler was 3-for-3 with a double and Chloe Grahmann 2-for3 with one RBI.

Columbus 8, Calif. 2

Columbus scored runs in the first, third and fourth innings in defeating Palo Cedro, Calif. Wednesday, July 30.

Columbus had 12 hits with Paelyn Etzler going 1-for-2 with one run batted in and was the starting and winning pitcher.

Etzler tossed the first five innings and gave up two runs, three hits, a walk while striking out nine.

Andie Melnar had two doubles and Kaylea McCarthy also had a multi-hit game.

Columbus 13, Penn. 5

Paelyn pitched 3.1 innings and ceded five runs, struck out five and freepassed four in the 13-5 victory over Indiana, Penn. Tuesday, July 29.

Etzler had two hits in three plate appearances with two RBI and Chloe Grahmann was 1-for-3 and drove in two runs.

Taitlyn Mican homered for Columbus and also doubled.

Quebec 7, Columbus 4

Columbus’ only loss came in the opening round to Repenigny, Quebec Monday, July 28.

Columbus led 4-2 after the first inning before Quebec scored four runs in the fourth inning to take the lead for good.

Paelyn Etzler pitched in relief and gave up two runs, four hits, walked four and struck out six in `four innings.

Etzler was 2-for-2. Columbus stranded eight baserunners.
