Comanches beat Yoakum 2-1
YOAKUM — The score between Shiner and Yoakum would be irrelevant; the experience they got was not.
The 28-2A champions Comanches worked hard to get a 2-1 win at 28-3A champion Yoakum in a playoff-warmup game for both teams Friday.
“Win or lose, we knew we were going to get better playing this game. We saw some good arms and a very talented baseball team,” Shiner head coach Daniel Boedeker said. “Proud of how our guys fought. We did not hit the ball as well as we wanted to, tip your hats to Yoakum pitchers; they did a great job. We found a way to win, got some base runners on and score some runs in the inning (fourth). Our pitching and defense was outstanding. That is big going into the playoffs.”
The Comanches went three up and three down in the first three innings.
In the top of the fourth, Ryan Peterson reached on an error on the leadoff. Courtesy runner Caden Chrismon got to second on an error on his steal attempt and put Shiner up 1-0 when Drew Wenske got a two-base error. Two outs later, Bryce Nerada scored Wenske on an RBI single, Shiner’s first hit of the game. The Bulldogs sliced the advantage in half in the bottom of the inning with a walk for Connor Zaruba and he scored on Ethan Franklin’s RBI double.
