Eli Fric inks with UMHB
The Shiner Comanches football class of 2022 has another member not put away his shoulder pads, helmet and cleats just yet.
Linebacker-tight endrunning back Eli Fric signed to play for the University of Mary Hardin- Baylor last week.
“I am excited for this and ready to see what they offer me,” Fric said.
Like all high school football players who go on to play college ball at any classification, Fric has been both envisioning and preparing for the opportunity.
“It has been a dream to play college ball since I was a little kid,” he said. “I started playing football in seventh grade and fell in love with and got passionate about it.”
The Crusader program reached out to Fric recently to see if he would be interested in playing for them.
“They contacted me a month or two ago and we just clicked, and they wanted me on their team,” Fric said. “I took a tour of the campus and loved it.”
The NCAA Division III Crusaders have had a recent run of success by winning a nation championship on Dec. 17, 2021, incidentally, two days after Fric and Shiner won their second straight UIL state football title.
“I want to be a national champion at the college level,” he said.
While Fric has not been told at what position he will be playing for Crusaders, he has a little bit of an idea.
“I’m thinking either linebacker or safety,” Fric said. “I plan to keep my grades up and work harder than anyone else on the field.”
Fric said he plans on majoring in mathematics, and he will miss his family and the Shiner Comanches football team.
Fric’s teammates, Doug Brooks and Tyler Bishop, both signed for Texas A&M-Kingsville.
