Indians dispatch Kipp Houston, 44-24
The Sacred Heart Indians scored just about every way imaginable in annexing a 44-24 victory over KIPP Houston here Friday.
The Indians scored two safeties, had a kickoff return for a touchdown, and rushing and passing touchdowns.
“I was pleased that our team was able to bounce back from last week’s disappointment. It was extremely important to get the victory on parent’s night and head into the bye week with momentum” Indian head coach Alex Seydler said. “I was proud of how our kids executed in all three phases of the game. The defense was solid, the offense was able to generate points, and the special teams made some big things happen which included running back the opening kickoff for a touchdown.”
Slot back/DB Hudson Kutac had a huge game with a kickoff return for a touchdown, a touchdown pass and caught four passes for 132 yards.
Quarterback Andrew Steffek ran for one touchdown and threw for another.
SH began the rout when Kutac returned the opening kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown and Steffek kicked the point after.
With 7:37 left in the first quarter, Brennan Ralston tackled KIPP quarterback Jayden Johnson for a safety for an 8-0 lead.
After the ensuing free kick, halfback Riley Haas ended a 45- yard, 4-play drive with a 5-yard touchdown and Steffek’s PAT made the score 16-0.
With 7:55 to play in the second period, Marcus Seger blocked a punt for a safety and an 18-0 lead.
The Indians extended the lead to 25-0 at the half after halfback Wyatt Matura went in from 3 yards out and a 25-0 halftime advantage.
SH scored on its first possession of the second half when Steffek scrambled for an 8-yard scoring run.
KIPP got on the scoreboard at the 5:35 mark of the third period on a 7-yard pass from Johnson to Mos’uud Oderine.
The Indians responded when Steffek connected with Kutac for an 84-yard pass and run. The PAT was blocked and the score stayed 37-6.
Seydler turned the game over to the subs after that. Halfback Arlen Henke scored on a 7-yard run to cap a 42- yard, 4-play drive.
The Kerberos scored three times in the fourth period after Johnson threw three touchdown passes.
