Indians lose a stunner
ARLINGTON – The Sacred Heart Indians had defeated St. Paul 10-8 and 15-11 in district.
But the Cardinals won when it counted, taking a 5-1 victory at UT-Arlington Friday in the TAPPS Division IV state semifinal game.
Five Indian errors played a big part in the loss.
St. Paul had six hits to the Indians five and stranded nine baserunners while the Indians left six.
Zeke Rodriguez pitched a complete game for the Cards. He gave up five hits, walked three and recorded eight strikeouts besides driving in two runs with a single.
Layne Sevcik was the starter and loser for the Tribe. He went four innings before leaving the game with an injury.
SP scored its first run in the initial inning on a RBI single by Jon Peters.
The Cardinals made the score 2-0 with a run in the third inning.
With two outs, back-to-back doubles by Nate Boedeker and Peters produced the run.
The fourth inning proved fatal for the Indians when SP scored four runs on two hit batsmen, and two errors all with two outs. The big blow was a two-run triple by Rodriguez.
The Indians’ lone run was scored in the seventh inning.
Bowen Hawkins led off with a walk and scored on a triple by Klayton Chance.
Josh Terry and Dillon Goedrich had two hits apiece.
Terry and Emerson Harvey were named to the all-tournament team.
