Indians take 35-13 verdict over Bay Area Christian

LEAGUE CITY – The Sacred Heart Indians are 6-0 for the first time since Rover was a pup.

The Indians slayed Clear Lake Bay Area Christian, 35-13, on its home soil Friday night.

The teams were tied at 7-all going into the second quarter before the Indians scored 21 unanswered points to take control of the game.

“We had another good team effort. It was a long road trip, and it was their homecoming so they had a large crowd. We brought a large crowd as well so I was incredibly thankful to our fans for making the long trip to come support us” Indian head coach Alex Seydler said. “I thought our kids did an excellent job of handling the environment effectively.”

The Indians amassed 263 yards of offense to Bay Area’s 242.

Halfback Brady Haas scored two touchdowns on runs of 5 and 68 yards and rushed for 123 yards on just 11 carries.

Quarterback Andrew Steffek was 6 of 10 from the firing line for 53 yards, threw for one touchdown and scored another.

The Indians scored a defensive touchdown when linebacker Josh Terry ran an interception back 22 yards.

The Indians’ first score came on a 5-yard run by Brady Haas after the Tribe got great field position at the BAC 45 following a punt.

BAC scored after an interception to knot the score at 7. The touchdown came on a 45-yard pass from quarterback Austin Ariens to halfback Landon Hall.

Late in the first period, a 57-yard punt by Nic Angerstein was downed at the Bronco 1. BAC punted with Sacred Heart getting the ball on its own 32. On the first play, Brady Haas swept right end and 68 yards for the touchdown and Angerstein added the point-after for a 14-7 advantage.

The Indians got great field position again at its own 45. The Indians drove the 55 yards in 6 plays with a 12-yard pass to Angerstein and another to Clayton Haas for 12 yards carried to the Bronco 2 from which point Andrew Steffek threw to Angerstein for the touchdown.

SH stretched the lead to 28-7 at the half after Terry goes 22 yards untouched with a pass interception.

The Indians didn’t score again until the fourth period on an 18- yard run by Andrew Steffek. The drive covered 58 yards and took 10 plays.

Cameron Cull and Klayton Chance came up with big defensive plays to help thwart Bronco drives.

Cade Steffek had a good punt return in the game.

“Our kids experienced several sudden changes throughout the game that went against us, but they remained composed and continued to fight back to regain the momentum,” Seydler said. “I thought they continued to persevere when faced with adversity time and time again which shows how much unity and character they have as a team.”
