Lady Brahmas 3, Gonzales 1
The Hallettsville Lady Brahmas began the season Aug. 12 and finally played their first home match here Tuesday, Aug. 26.
The long wait turned out well as the Lady Brahmas defeated the Lady Apaches 3-1 (28-30, 25-23, 25-21, 25- 17) before a boisterous student body.
The first set was one for the books. The Lady Brahmas trailed 24-16 only to come back to tie the score at 24-all, but ended up losing, 30-28.
Things picked up in the second set. Hallettsville trailed 22-20 before reeling off a 4-1 run with an ace by Adison Bujnoch and a block by Christine Felcman fueling the surge and a 25-23 victory.
The LB trailed again in the third set, 20-16, before outscoring Gonzales 7-0. Bujnoch had an ace and kills by Jans Henke, Rylie Mikulec and Felcman helped seal the deal, 25-21.
The teams were tied 10 times in the fourth set prior to Hallettsville pulling away with a 5-0 rally that featured an ace by Henke, two blocks and a Gonzales attack error. Hallettsville went on to a 25-17 win.
Alaina Halata and Rylie Mikulec produced a doubledouble. Hallettsville 33 assists and 11 digs, Mikulec 110 digs and 11 kills. Henke had a match-high 18 kills.
