Lady Bulldogs take bronze at Marion Tournament
The Lady Bulldogs Varsity Basketball Team won four of five games last week in the Marion Tournament and placed third. Olivia Fojt was named to the AllTournament Team.
YOAKUM 39, BLANCO 33
The Lady Bulldogs posted a 14-4 run in the fourth quarter, rallying to beat Blanco in the first game 39-33.
Yoakum led 12-7 after one quarter and each team bagged 10 points in the second box. Blanco got in the lead with a 12-3 run in the third box.
Jayana Phillips scored 14 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs and Destiny Rios finished with 12 points.
YOAKUM 51, GONZALES 39
Yoakum defeated Gonzales for the second time, getting a 51-39 result.
Yoakum took a 10-7 lead after the first quarter over the Lady Apaches 18-11 in the second for a 28-18 halftime lead.
The score was 14-10 in the third quarter and Gonzales held a slight 11-9 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Destiny Rios made 16 points for Yoakum with Phillips and Deveah Rios adding nine points each.
SAN ANTONIO CHRISTIAN 49, YOAKUM 30
San Antonio Christian (SAC) outscored Yoakum 17-6 in the first frame and the Lady Bulldogs were unable to catch up, losing 49-30.
The Lady Bulldogs went on a 9-6 second-frame run to trail 23-15 at halftime. SAC went on a 17-11 third-box run and outscored Yoakum 9-4 in the final eight minutes.
Amori Harper’s eight points led Yoakum in scoring.
YOAKUM 58, DEVINE 56
Yoakum used a 20-11 second-quarter run to rally from a six-point deficit and held on for a 58-56 win against Devine.
Devine led 18-12 at the end of the first quarter. Yoakum outscored them 17-11 in the third box to post a 49-40 lead and Devine attempted a rally 16-9 in the fourth quarter of the Lady Bulldogs.
Phillips netted a dozen to pace Yoakum.
YOAKUM 45, NEW BRAUNFELS JV 39
Phillips had 14 points and Olivia Fojt made a dozen points as Yoakum won its last tournament game against the New Braunfels junior varsity 45-39.
The Lady Bulldogs led 10-7 after the first frame and led 25-16 at halftime before outscoring the Lady Unicorns 17-9 in the third box.
New Braunfels scored 14 of 17 points in the final period.
