Lady Bulldogs win at Cornerstone Tournament, defeats Luling

    The Lady Bulldogs went 1-3 at the Cornerstone Christian Tournament Nov. 16-18, and split road games with Wharton and Luling Nov. 20 and 21, respectively.

    CANYON LAKE 58, YOAKUM 29

    The Lady Bulldogs opened the Cornerstone Tournament Nov. 16 with a 58-29 loss to Canyon Lake.

    Jayana Phillips recorded 12 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs.

    Canyon Lake led 14- 12 after one quarter and outscored Yoakum 14-4 in the second box for a 28-16 halftime lead.

    The Lady Hawks went on a 20-6 run in the third frame and scored 10 of 17 points in the fourth box.

    CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN 90, YOAKUM 21

    Phillips scored eight points as Yoakum took a hard 90-21 loss to host Lady Warriors, also on Nov.18.

    Cornerstone Christian led 29-4 after one quarter and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 22-8 in the second period.

    The Lady Warriors held a 19-5 scoring advantage in the third box and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 20-4 in the final eight minutes.

    CEDAR CREEK 43, YOAKUM 33

    Phillips made 10 points and Destiny Rios had eight points as Yoakum lost with a closer margin to Cedar Creek 43-33 on Friday.

    Yoakum outscored Cedar Creek 8-6 in the first stanza and the Lady Eagles went on a 17-8 secondquarter run for a 23-16 halftime lead.

    Cedar Creek went on a 12-2 run in the third square to up their margin to 35- 18 and Yoakum fought back with a 15-8 run in the fourth quarter.

    YOAKUM 54, BASTROP 43

    Phillips led Yoakum to a 54-43 win against Bastrop on Nov. 18 as she made 23 points.

    The Lady Bulldogs led 13-9 after the first quarter and scored 13 of 21 points in the second box.

    The teams split 26 points in the third frame and Yoakum outscored Bastrop 15-13 in the final period.

    WHARTON 52, YOAKUM 46

    The Lady Bulldogs outscored Wharton 25-20 in the second half, but could not overcome an 11-point deficit, falling 52-46 Nov. 20 in Wharton.

    The Lady Tigers led by two, 14-12, after the first frame and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 18-9 in the second quarter.

    Yoakum held a 9-7 run in the third stanza and scored 15 of 28 points in the fourth quarter

    Phillips led the Lady Bulldogs with 17 points and Rios had 10 points.

    YOAKUM 53, LULING 24

    Destiny Rios scored 13 points, Phillips added 10 points, and Deaveah Rios chipped in nine points for a 53-24 win Nov. 21 at Luling.

    The score was 8-8 after eight minutes and Yoakum went on a 14-5 run in the second period.

    The Lady Bulldogs owned 17 of 22 third-frame points and finished with a 14-7 run in the fourth period.
