LB advance to regional quarters; tie school record for most wins in a season
GERONIMO – After two impressive opening round wins, the Hallettsville Lady Brahmas’ playoff run going to get harder.
The Lady Brahmas had no trouble in a 55- 32 area round victory at Navarro High School Friday night and they played district champion San Antonio Cole Tuesday. A win would put them in the Region IV-3A tournament at Seguin High School Friday and Saturday.
Hallettsville ad - vanced past the bi-district round for the first time in coach Hunter Hlavaty’s tenure and Friday’s night’s victory also tied the school record for the most wins in a season with 34 set 10 years ago.
The Lady Brahmas didn’t have a great start and turned the ball over five times in the first three minutes. But once they got steered in the right direction, they scored 12 unanswered points for a 16-3 lead at the end of the first quarter. Kasey Harper had 7 points in the first.
The lead was stretched to 33-11 at the intermission.
Macy Herring worked in the post for 17 points a n d A l a i n a H a l a t a scored 10 for the LB. Grace Edney led the Owls with 14 points.
Hallettsville (34-5) shot 39.3% from the field and were 6 of 13 from the free-throw line.

LB 78, Nixon-Smiley 25
Nixon-Smiley proved to be a good scrimmage for the LB in the bi-district round of the playoffs in Seguin Tuesday, Feb. 13.
Five starters were in double figures in the game which saw the LB shoot 51.6% from the field and 35.7% from three-point range.
The game was tied 3-all at the onset before Hallettsville scored 19 points in a row en route to a 30-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. Adalyn Pohl led the splurge with 9 points.
The lead was 50-15 at the intermission after Macy Herring scored 7 points in the second period.
Kasey Harper canned 19 points for the LB with 8 of 13 shooting including 3 for 6 on three-point attempts. Pohl had 13 points, Layten Kolacny 12 and Addison Matula came off the bench to score 12.
