LB defeat Columbus, Yoakum
Two four-run innings were good enough in the Hallettsville Lady Brahmas’ 12-8 victory over Yoakum here Friday night.
The victory was the 10th in a row. Hallettsville is 12-2 overall and 4-1 in district.
Grace Halata went the first three innings and gave up two runs, two hits, struck out three, walked three.
Taylor Yeatts was the winning pitcher in relief and threw the final four innings. The junior right-hander gave up six runs (three unearned), five hits, walked one and struck out three.
Hallettsville scored its runs on nine hits, five walks and four Yoakum errors.
The LB took a 4-0 lead in the first frame. Hanna Zachary walked and moved to second on a single by Caitlynn Halata. A free pass to Grace Halata loaded the bases. Macey Pustka knocked in two runs with a base hit. Grace Halata and Pustka both scored on errors.
Macey Pustka singled in the third inning and scored on a triple by Addison Matula.
Four runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning.

In a pitcher’s duel, three runs were good enough in the Lady Brahmas’ win in Columbus Tuesday, March 11.
LB Grace Halata got the best of the Lady Cardinals’ Mia Post and pitched a four-hitter with a walk and five strikeouts. Post fanned 12 and gave up eight hits and issued one base on balls.
Only two Lady Cardinals made it as far as second base.
Hallettsville committed the only error in the game and left five baserunners while Columbus stranded seven.
Hallettsville scored a run in the first inning. Hanna Zachary led off with a single and moved to second on Caitlynn Halata’s sacrifice bunt. Down in the count 0-2, Grace Halata singled to center to score Zachary.
In the bottom of the first, KJ Foster singled with one out and Ellie Brown was safe on an error before the next two batters were retired.
Zachary tripled to left center to lead off the third inning. On an odd play, Caitlynn Halata struck out, but the catcher dropped the ball and Zachary alertly scored from third base on the throw to first.
Grace Halata retired five batters in a row before walking Post and hitting Foster with a pitch in the third inning. She coaxed a ground ball to the infield to get out of the inning.
Post singled with one out in the fifth inning and stole second. Grace Halata retired the next two batters on a strikeout and a ground ball to Pustka at short.
Hallettsville scored an insurance run in the sixth inning. Macey Pustka led off with a double to the gap in right center. She moved to third on an infield out by Addison Matula. Taylor Yeatts grounded out to third to score Pustka.
