    San Marcos Tennis Xperience, led by Mike Martinez, collaborated with the Shiner Women’s United Tennis League to host the first ever UTR tennis tournament in Shiner at Green-Dickson Park on July 25th. 
    UTR is a rating system which aims to allow players to find level-based matches. Any player can join the UTR system to connect with other players or register for tournaments, match play or league play.
    22 competitors took to the courts from Shiner and neighboring towns. 
    Winners from the tournament are as follows:
    Flight 1: Champion Marco Lara, Runner-up Braden Watkins (Edna), Third Place Tyler Hemphill, Backdraw Winner Laura Krueger (La Vernia)
    Flight 2: 1st place Colby Nichols, 2nd place Matthew Mitchon, Third Place Brynlee Janak (Goliad - not pictured), Backdraw Winner Alexis Boedeker
    Doubles:  2nd place Kim Pesek and Avery Pesek.
    A second UTR tournament,  “Shiner September Slam,” is scheduled for Sept 6.  
    Juniors and adults are welcome and singles and doubles divisions are available. 
    A  taco truck and snow-cones will be onsite.
