Major Girls lose to Oklahoma, Louisiana

WACO – Errors and walks led to Hallettsville’s undoing in the 6-2 loss to Broken Arrow, Okla. Thursday in the Southwest Regional Tournament.

Hallettsville scored a run in the top of the first inning and did not score again until the sixth and final frame.

Blair Ranly led off the first inning with a single and moved to third on two infield outs. Piper Hawkins hit the first pitch she saw and singled to right field to score Ranly

Ranly and Kasie Davis led off the fourth inning with base hits before a double play ended the threat.

The final run in the sixth came when Kenley Sevcik singled to left and ended up on third base when the ball went through the left fielder’s wicket. Sevcik scored when Quinn Henneke grounded out to first baseman Bella Hood.

Broken Arrow scored a single run in the first inning on a walk and an error, one in the second inning on a walk, error and hit by pitch before a runscoring base hit by Melana Flamminio.

Two more runs without a hit crossed the plate in the third inning.

The temperature in Waco Thursday was 98 degrees with 35% humidity.

Louisiana 5, H’ville 1

A four-run fourth inning for Sterlington, La. broke up a pitcher’s duel in the Wednesday, July 23 loss.

Hallettsville out-hit Louisiana 7-6. 

Hallettsville took a short lived 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth.

Amryn Etzler tripled with one out and scored on Macyn Wimberly’s single.

Hallettsville had seven hits and left seven baserunners stranded.

Hallettsville had loaded the bases in the fifth inning on a base hit by Brenna Bucek, an error and single by Quinn Henneke, but failed to score.

Hallettsville had the lead-off hitter on in the first, second and fifth inning.

Almost Perfect

Macyn Wimberly almost threw a perfect game as Hallettsville defeated defending champion Waco Midway, 9-0, in the tournament’s first game Tuesday, July 22.

Wimberly retired the first eight batters she faced before giving up a third inning base on balls. Another Midway batter reached on an error. She struck out five.

Hallettsville collected seven hits and four runs were unearned.

Hallettsville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Blair Ranly led off with a single and scored on an infield out by Wimberly.

The score stayed 1-0 prior to Hallettsville rallying four runs in both the fifth and sixth inning.

In the fourth, Amryn Etzler led off with a hit and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Wimberly. Piper Hawkins ripped a double to score Etzler. Brenna Bucek singled and was chased home on a triple by Kenley Sevcik.

The sixth inning saw a sacrifice fly by Etzler scoring a run.
