Minor League Boys gain State Tourney

INGLESIDE – The Hallettsville 12 U Minor League boys copped the Section 4 Tournament in dramatic fashion with a 9-8 victory over Needville Friday.

The All-Stars trailed 8-4 prior to scoring five runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull out the win.

The five runs came on just two hits. The big hit in the inning was a two-run triple by Colt Wagner.

Starting and winning pitcher Holt Thigpen gave up six hits, five runs (four earned,) struck out one and did not allow a base on balls. Peyton Blahuta pitched one scoreless inning in relief.

Chans Janak, Brax Threadgill and Thigpen had hits for the All-Stars who accumulated nine walks in the contest.

H’ville 14, Palacios 4

The big win over Palacios came on Wednesday, July 3.

Hallettsville took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second. Lane Brandes singled in all three runs.

Southpaw Holt Thigpen was the winning pitcher in relief and gave up no runs, struck out one with no walks in two and two-thirds innings. Nash Bucek threw the final third of an inning.

Brax Threadgill was the starting pitcher.

Palacios actually went up 4-3 before Hallettsville scored two runs to take a 5-4 advantage, a lead they would never relinquish.

Cole Kocian tripled and two of the runs scored on errors.

Hallettsville was outhit, 8-6, but Palacios committed six errors and its pitchers issued nine walks.

Chans Janak had two hits with two RBI and two runs scored.

Jackson Pustejovsky and Cavan Mertz both singled. Thigpen and Carter Barnes scored two runs each. Mertz drove in two runs and scored two.
