Minor League girls hit a bump in the road

A reversal in fortune occurred when the Minor League girls lost to Shiner twice in the finals of District 21 East Zone Tournament here.

Hallettsville went to the finals undefeated before losing to Shiner twice – 13-6 Friday and 9-6 Sunday evening.

In Sunday’s game, Hallettsville had a 6-4 lead before Shiner rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Hallettsville scored a run in the sixth inning, before falling short.

Hallettsville scored first in the top of the first inning on a two-run single by Sawyer Wimberly who eventually scored on a couple of errors on the play.

Shiner scored two runs in the bottom of the first when Hattie Spahn knocked in both runs with a single.

Shiner scored in the bottom of the second to tie the score at 3-all.

Bridgette Fishbeck walked to start the inning and scored when Hadley Trojcak was safe on an error.

Hallettsville’s offense started going south after scoring two runs in the third inning for a 5-3 lead.

Julie Haas walked to start the inning and came across on an infield hit by Neely Grahmann. Grahmann scored when Wimberly was safe on an error.

Shiner’s five runs in the fifth inning came on only two hits, three walks and three errors.

Jade Boner had the big hit in the inning with a two-run single.

Hallettsville’s final run in the sixth inning scored on an infield out by Brynadee Etzler.

Chloe Klekar and Grahmann had two hits each for Hallettsville and Etzler one.

H’ville 10, Shiner 5

Hallettsville beat Shiner 10-5 in the second game of the tournament Wednesday, June 18.

Neely Grahmann was the winning pitcher in relief, working 3.1 innings and ceding four hits and only one run.

Shiner scored first in the top of the first inning with Chloe Pohler coming across on a wild pitch after she had singled.

Hallettsville scored three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Brynadee Etzler chased home one run with a single and Addi Sacco two more with a base hit.

Four runs scored in the second inning for a 7-1 advantage.

Braylee Hanslik led off with a base hit and Molly Rainosek and Aubree Thompson walked. Hanslik scored on a wild pitch. Julie Haas singled for two RBI and Sawyer Wimberly’s base hit drove in the final run.

Finley Poeling drove in a run in the fifth inning with a walk.
