Minor League Girls Repeat as Texas East Champions
EL CAMPO – With some different cast members, the Hallettsville 10u Minor League All-Stars defeated the Washington County All-Stars, 11-8, Monday night for their second Texas East championship in a row Monday evening.
The score was a far cry from Hallettsville’s 1-0 victory on Friday.
Macyn Wimberly, who threw a no-hitter in Friday’s game, weathered the storm so to speak. Wimberly gave up four hits, eight walks and teammates’ six errors were committed which could have been crucial.
Hallettsville had 9-4 lead through four innings before the noose started getting tight. WC scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to narrow the gap to 10-8. But Blair Ranly’s two-run single in the bottom of the inning following a single by Piper Hawkins and a double by Morgan Felcman gave Hallettsville some breathing room.
WC tallied two runs in the top of the first inning before Hallettsville replied with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good. Adley Zappe’s two-run double and Brenna Bucek’s sacrifice bunt scored Ranly, who had walked.
Landry Whitley hit a one-out single in the second inning and scored when Hawkins reached on an error. Hawkins came across when Morgan Felcman’s fly ball to center field was dropped for a two-base error
Threes were relevant with Hallettsville scoring three more runs in the third inning on two walks, two hits and an error. Zappe led off with a bases on balls and Brenna Bucek singled. Zappe stole home and Bucek scored when Whitley reached base on an error. Whitley stole home for the final run. HA-S 16, Lumberton 3
Hallettsville gained the finals with a 16-3 rout of Lumberton Saturday in five innings.
Hallettsville collected 12 hits and were aided by seven Lumberton errors along with four walks.
Hallettsville put Lumberton to be early with a nine-run second inning.
Starter Kenley Sevcik pitched the first two innings to get the win. Sevcik gave up two runs, one hit, struck our four and walked four.
Morgan Felcman threw the final four innings and ceded two earned runs, one hit and walked four.
Macyn Wimberly led Hallettsville at the plate with a 3-for-four performance which included two triples and two runs batted in.
Amryn Etzler had two hits in four trips to the plate and tripled with one RBI.
Addison Hernandez contributed a single and drove in two runs; Piper Hawkins had a base hit and knocked in two runs; and Brenna Bucek, Quinn Henneke, Baye Shimek, Blair Ranly, Sevcik and Felcman all singled. Felcman had two RBI. H’ville 1, Washington County 0
In a pitcher’s duel like no other, Hallettsville edged Washington County 1-0 Friday night at Heritage Field.
Hallettsville’s Macyn Wimberly out-dueled WC’s Kori Boeter with Wimberly pitching a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts and five walks.Boeter gave up one hit - an infield single by Blair Ranly in the fourth inning.
Baserunners were few and far between for Hallettsville with six runners stranded.
It was only fitting an error would decide the issue.
Hallettsville scored its run in the bottom of the third inning. Baye Shimek walked on a 3-2 pitch to start the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Following a strikeout, Morgan Felcman’s grounder went through the wicket of the WC second baseman to score Shimek.
Hallettsville had runners on second and third with two outs in the fourth inning after Ranly singled and Wimberly walked. Adley Zappe’s sacrifice bunt moved up both baserunners before Boeter recorded the next two outs.
