Moulton boys basketball: Katz win runner up at home tournament
Moulton defeated Hallettsville and won three at their home tournament in last week’s action.
Moulton 63, Hallettsville 44
Ja’Michael Williams and Landon Chaloupka each netted 15 points with one trey and Kenton Kirkland added 10 points in Moulton’s 63-44 home win over Hallettsville on Dec. 9.
The Katz led 23-9 after the first frame with Alex Trevino bagging all eight of his points. The teams shared 30 points in the second quarter and Hallettsville outscored Moulton 11-10 in the third box with Kirkland booking four points for Moulton. Moulton went on a 15-9 run in the fourth frame with nine points by Chaloupka.
Gavyn Chapa led all scorers and the Brahmas with 16 points and five triples.

Katz Klassic Tournament
The Katz went 3-1 and finished runner up in the Katz Klassic Tournament last weekend.
Chaloupka, Trevino and Kenton Kirkland made the All-Tournament Team.
Moulton 52, Sacred Heart 31
An 18-7 run by Moulton in the first quarter set the tone for a 52-31 win for the Bobkatz against Sacred Heart in the opening game of the Moulton boys tournament on Thursday.
Landon Chaloupka hit two treys and scored 12 points, Alex Trevino netted 10 points with a triple and Hunter Anderle recorded 10 points with one trey. Dillion Goedrich led Sacred Heart with nine points and a triple.
To open the game, Ja’Michael Williams made three baskets, including one dunk, as the Katz scored the first eight points and later outscored the Indians 5-3w with Hunter Anderle scoring after a pass by Williams and later getting a steal to convert a three-point play.
Bryan Fernandez hit a triple near the end of the frame to give the Katz an 11-point lead.
The Indians scored the first four points of the second frame to get within 18-11.
Chaloupka hit a triple and tallied five points while Fernandez made another three and Trevino made a buzzer trey as Moulton outscored Sacred Heart 13-2 to end the second quarter.
In the third quarter, down 33-13, the Indians went on a 7-0 run; Moulton scored 10 of the last 14 points to lead 43-24 at the conclusion of the quarter.
In the fourth box, Moulton scored nine of 16 points with Trevino scoring five and Chaloupla making his second three.

Chaloupka sank 20 points and Kirkland dropped in 10 as the Katz defeated El Campo 46-40 later on Thursday. Moulton led 10-7 after one quarter and outscored the Redbirds 13-6 in the second period.
El Campo closed the gap to 37-30 in the third quarter and outscored the Katz 10-9 in the fourth quarter.
Redbird Augustus Respondek sank 13 points.

The Katz were edged by Woodville (Australia) 49-44 on Friday.
Woodville led 12-11 after the first quarter and were ahead 23-20 at halftime.
Woodville scored 11 of 19 points in the third frame. Moulton outscored 16 of 31 points in the fourth frame.
Chaloupka hit two triples and scored 15 points while Woodville’s Harry Clay bagged 18 points.

The Katz overcame a 34-33 deficit with a 20-14 fourth-quarter run to defeat Nixon-Smiley 53-48 on Saturday.
The Mustangs outscored Moulton 17-8 in the first quarter and led 30-22 at halftime. Moulton went on a 11-4 run in the third quarter.
Kirkland led all scorers with 23 points and Trevino tallied 10. Omar Abundis led Nixon with 19 points.
