Moulton girls basketball: Berger gets lots of reps in first season at Concordia

Moulton grad and Concordia women’s basketball athlete Mackenzie Berger played in almost every game for the Lady Tornadoes in the 2022-23 season.
Berger’s first action came Nov. 8 at Southwestern where she played for 13 minutes, was 5-for-10 from the floor (50 percent shooting), 3-of-6 three-point shooting (50 percent), one offensive rebound, one defensive rebounds, one personal fouls, one turnover, two steals and 13 points in a 60-41 win for Concordia in the season opener.
Berger next played in a 66-45 loss to Transylvania (Kentucky) in Richardson in the UT Dallas Classic on Nov. 18. She saw 26 minutes. 4-of-11 shooting, 1-of-6 three-point shooting. two offensive and two defensive rebounds, two personal fouls, two steals and nine points.
Berger played 26 minutes against Covenant (Georgia) on Nov. 19, 2-for-11 shooting, 2-for-8 three-point shooting, one offensive rebound, one personal foul, one turnover and six points in a 61-52 Concordia loss.
She next was on the court Nov. 27 at Texas Lutheran for 13 points, 0-for-6 from the floor, 0-for-5 three-point shooting, 1-for-2 free throw, one offensive, one defensive rebound. one personal foul, one assist and one point as Concordia came up short 56-41.
In Nov. 29’s home game against Southwestern, Berger played for 16 minutes, was 0-for-2 field goals, 0-for-2 three pointers, one offensive and one defensive rebound, one personal foul, and one assist to help Concordia to a 59-42 victory.
She played 12 minutes in the Dec. 3 home game against Mary-Hardin Baylor (78-57 win for UMHB), 0-for-2 field goals, 0-for-1 three pointers, one defensive rebound and one assist.
Berger saw 10 minutes on Dec. 8 at East Texas Baptist in a close loss for Concordia (51-45), 0-for-2 field goals, 0-for-2 three pointers, two defensive rebounds and one steal.
She played 16 minutes Dec. 10 at LeTourneau in the Lady Tornadoes’ 77-56 win, 1-for-2 field goals, 1-for-2 three pointers, 2-for-2 free throws,  two offensive and four defensive rebounds, one personal foul, one turnover and five points.
A week later against Howard Payne, Berger played 16 minutes, 0-for-3 field goals, 0-for-3 three pointers, 2-for-2 free throws, one defensive rebound, two personal fouls and two points in Concordia 72-67 win..
Berger saw five minutes in the Dec 19 home game against Sul Ross State, 0-for-2 field goals, 0-for-1 three pointers, one defensive rebound, one assist, one turnover and one steal in a 65-62 nailbitter win for Concordia.
Berger played four minutes, Dec. 30 against Texas Lutheran, 1-for-2 field goals, 1-for-1 three pointers, 2-for-2 free throws, one offensive rebound and scored five points as Concordia took care of business 84-63.
Berger started 2023 with 19 minutes on Jan. 5 at UT Dallas, 0-for-7 field goals, 0-for-4 three pointers and one defensive rebound as the Lady Tornadoes endured a 51-24 setback
In a road game against Ozarks (Arkansas) on Jan. 7, Berger played five minutes with one personal foul as Concordia lost 70-63..
She started the Jan. 12 home game against McMurry, playing 12 minutes with 1-for-3 field goals, 1-for-3 three pointers, 2-for-2 free throws, one assist and five points in a 79-56 victory or the Lady Tornadoes.
Berger started and played nine minutes against Hardin-Simmons at home on Jan. 14 with 0-for-3 field goals, 0-for-1 three pointers, one offensive rebounds and one turnover as HSU prevailed 84-78.
At Mary Hardin-Baylor on Jan. 21, Berger was in the starting lineup, played 25 minutes, 2-for-7 field goals, 2-for-7 three pointers, 4-for-4 free throws, one offensive and five defensive rebounds, three turnovers, one block and 10 points in Concordia’s 65-57 defeat.
On Jan. 26 against LeTourneau at home,  she started and went 27 minutes, 6-for-17 field goals, 6-for-15 three pointers, 2-for-2 free throws, two offensive and five defensive rebounds, one block and netted 20 points as the Lady Tornadoes won 81-67.
Jan. 28 against East Texas Baptist, Berger got another start, played 18 minutes, 1-for-3 field goals, 0-for-2 three pointers, one personal foul, one assist and two points in Concordia’s 78-56 loss..
At Sul Ross on Feb. 4, she played seven minutes, 0-for-2 field goals and had one personal foul as Concordia came up short 71-63.
At Howard Payne on Feb. 6, Berger started, played 16 minutes, 1-for-4 field goals, 1-for-4 three pointers, one defensive rebound, one assist and three points in the Lady Tornadoes’ 91-75 win.
Concordia hosted Ozarks on Feb. 9 as Berger started and went 10 minutes, 0-for-3 field goals, 0-for-2 three pointers, two defensive rebounds and one assist as Concordia posted an 82-68 victory.
On Feb. 11, at home to UT Dallas, Berger started, played 26 minutes, 2-for-6 field goals, 1-for-5 three pointers, three defensive rebounds, one assist, one steal and scored five points in Concordia’s 61-54 loss.
At Hardin-Simmons Feb. 16, Berger went 20 minutes with another start, 3-for-9 field goals, 3-for-7 three points, 1-for-2 free throws, four defensive rebounds, one personal foul, one assist, one turnover and 10 points as the Lady Tornadoes took a tough 91-41 loss.
At McMurry on Feb. 18, Berger started, played 17 minutes with 2-for-7 field goals, 2-for-7 three pointers, two defensive rebounds, one personal foul, one turnover and six points as Concordia fell 74-40.
In Concordia’s game Feb. 21 against Mary Hardin-Baylor in the American Southwest Conference Tournament, Berger saw one minute as the Lady Tornadoes fell 78-64 to conclude.
Berger seasons highs: 20 points, 27 minutes, 17 field goals attempted, six field goals made, 15 three-pointers attempted, seven rebounds and one block against LeTourneau on Jan. 26; four free throws attempted, four free throws made Jan. 21 at Mary Hardin-Baylor; one assist Feb. 16 at Hardin Simmons; two steals vs Transylvania Nov. 18
Total for the 2022-23 season, Berger played in 25 games, started 10 games and was on the court for 369 minutes, averaging 4.76 minutes a game. She hit 31-of-124 field goals for 25, shooting percentage, was 24-of-92 for three-point baskets and a 25.5 percentage. Berger hit 16-of-18 free throws, making 88.9 percent. She had 50 total rebounds, 37 defensive and 13 offensive, averaging two game, 14 person fouls, 10 assists, 11 turnovers, two blocks, 7 steals, 102 point scored for 4.1 points a game.
