Moulton girls basketball:Kittens defeat Shiner, place second at PA tournament with three wins

SHINER — Araceli Vasquez hit two tres and scored 12 points while Audrey Swinford had nine points and one triple as the Kittens won handily at neighbor Shiner on Nov. 18 52-18,
“It went well. We were able to push the ball and shot the ball in the first half,” Kittens head coach Craig Barta said. “In the second half, we had the lead and did what we needed to to control the game. Shiner is getting started and I know they will get better. Hopefully, we will continue to make our play work.”
Karsyn Blahuta and Taylor Self each scored three points as Moulton scored the game’s first 12 points and then ended the frame on an 8-1 run with Ava Olivarez scoring four points.
Self made a bucket to start the second quarter for a 22-1 Kitten advantage.
Jaliyah Barnett converted a three-point play while Emersyn Boehm and Hailey Radicke each made a shot to get the Lady Comanches within 22-8.
Swinford hit a triple and then made an inside shot to put the Kittens up 27-8 at halftime.
Araceli Vasquez made a triple, hit two shorter jumpers and totaled seven points in the third quarter in the Kitten’s 16-5 run. Lilliana Gomez made a shot from downtown. 
Vasquez scored three points to lead Moulton’s 9-5 scoring advantage in the fourth period.

Port Aransas Tournament
The Kittens went 3-1 and placed second in the Port Aransas Tournament last Thursday through Saturday.
Moulton 51, Johnson City 43
Audrey Swinford netted 18 points and Taylor Self bagged 10 points as the Kittens rallied to defeat Johnson City in their first tournament game on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles led 13-8 after the first frame and outscored the Kittens 16-13 in the second period for a 29-21 halftime lead. The Kittens scored 17 of 24 points in the third quarter to take a 38-36 lead before outscored Johnson City 13-7 in the fourth frame. Z. Aguirre led the Lady Eagles with 14 points and a triple.

The host Lady Marlins outscored the Kittens 32-13 in the second to rally for a 42-37 win on Friday.
Moulton led 16-8 after the first quarter and went on an 8-2 run in the second frame.
The Lady Marlins scored 13 of 17 points in the third period and sealed the win with a 19-9 advantage in the fourth.
Swinford led the Kittens with 11 points while Brooke Jones had 11 points and a triple for Port Aransas; Kaise Burrell scored 10 points and McKennah Bacon finished with 10 points.

Swinford hit two tres and scored 15 points while Ava Olivarez recorded 12 points, Kate Mikulencak hit three triples and totaled 11 points, and Araceli Vasquez topped 10 points as Moulton routed Fayetteville 67-22 later on Friday.
Moulton led 20-5 after one period and 36-14 at halftime.
The Kittens blanked the Lady Lions 17-0 in the third quarter and scored 17 of 25 points in the final period.  S. Deseda, D.V. Moeckel and P. Jurecka all had six points for Fayetteville.

The Kittens rallied in their final game of the tournament by outscoring Orange Grove 22-10 in the fourth quarter to win  55-45 Saturday.
The Lady Bulldogs led slightly 6-5 after the first quarter and outscored Moulton 22-7 in the second box for a 28-13 halftime lead.
The Kittens went on a 21-7 run to get within 35-33 in the third quarter.
Swinford led Moulton with 17 points and a triple with Vasquez knocking down 14 points and one trey; Emma Schroedter led the Lady Bulldogs with 17 points.
