Moulton softball: Leakey defeats Kittens in area-round playoff
The Lady Eagles scored five runs in the fifth inning and five in the seventh inning to down the Moulton softball team 15-6 in the area round on Thursday in San Antonio.
Moulton led 3-2 after the first inning. Leakey outscored the Kittens 2-0 in the second inning and Moulton did the same in the third to retake the lead at 5-4.
The Lady Eagles went ahead 10-5 in sixth inning; the Kittens scored one run in the bottom of the seventh.
Bethany Kram pitched all seven innings with 15 runs on 11 hits, three walks and eight strikeouts.
At the plate, Kram was 2-for-3 with one run; Araceli Vasquez hit 1-for-4, run and RBI; Addison Simper swung 1-for-4, run and stolen base. Katie Richter went 1-for-4 with run and RBI; Taylor Self finished 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI while Madison Rothbauer hit 1-for-3.
The Kittens finished with a record of 11-13.

Several players won 29-1A all district.
Self and Richter were selected as Co-Offensive Most Valuable Players. Kram was chosen as Defensive MVP; Karsyn Blahuta was picked as Utility Player and Sophia Vasquez was named Newcomer of the Year.
Addison Simper, Araceli Vasquez and Rothbauer were all chosen for the First Team.
Receiving Academic All-District were Simper, Valeria Pinedo, Blahuta, Araceli Vasquez, Richter, Rotherbauer, Self, Kram, Estrella Perez and Sophia Vasquez.
