Navarro wins Jimmy Appelt Tourney

The Geronimo Navarro Panthers won the 18th Annual Jimmy Appelt Tournament held over the weekend.

The Panthers had the same record as Hallettsville at 3-1 but won the tournament by virtue of a 2-1 victory over the Brahmas Friday night.

The Friday game was a classic pitcher’s duel between the Brahmas’ Hudson Chenard and Navarro hurler Charles Brown.

Brown gave up four hits, did allow a walk and struck out nine.

Chenard went 5.2 innings and ceded two runs, walked two and struck out four.

The only Brahma run came in the bottom of the seventh inning. Tanner Wagner and Chenard singled and Carter Blaha’s base hit scored Wagner before the final out was made.

The Brahmas are 8-3 on the season and opened District 25-AAA play at Yoakum Friday night.

Brahmas 18, Shiner 2

Hallettsville run-ruled Shiner in its final game Saturday night.

The Brahmas had 13 hits and Shiner committed seven errors.

Tanner Wagner had an outstanding night with a Ganado Thursday night.

A six-run second inning did the Indians in when the Brahmas batted around plus three.

Jorian Wilson drove in two runs with a double, Tanner Wagner singled in a run and runs scored on a wild pitch and an error.

Gavyn Chapa worked five-plus innings to earn the win. The sophomore right-hander gave up seven hits, walked one, struck out two and hit two batters.

Brahmas 6, Brazos 2

Brazos led 2-1 before the Brahmas scored four runs in the fifth and final inning.

Andrew George and Jorian Wilson walked to start the frame. Tanner Wagner doubled to score George. Another double by Chenard chased Wilson home. Carter Blaha and Austin Henrichs were hit by pitches and the latter forced in Tanner Wagner. Preston Wagner also drew a base on balls to force in another run.

Hallettsville had just five hits, but used five walks and three hit batsmen to its advantage.

Weston Loudon was the winning pitcher in relief of starter Konnor Kopecky.
