'Nettes succumb to BSJ

GIDDINGS – The Sacred Heart Indians had trouble scoring in the middle quarters in a 41-27 loss to Bryan St. Joseph, 41-27, Friday in the TAPPS Division regional finals Friday night.

The Indianettes led 11-8 at the end of the first quarter behind 4 points by Mallory Mueller before things went south.

The Indianettes made just one field goal in the second period and turnovers were a killer. Meanwhile, the Eagles scored just 6 points and took a 2-point halftime lead.

Gabi Roy scored 6 points in the low post to lead a 12-0 run and a 29-17 advantage going into the final eight minutes.

Heather Wilson led the Indianettes with 7 points . Leah Hurley scored 14 for SJ and Roy 13.

St. Joseph (29-4) advances to the state semifinals and will play Waco Valor, who beat St. Paul 48-46 in double overtime.

The Indianettes defeated Brazos Christian Monday, Feb. 17 on the loser’s home court.

The fourth period was the difference when the Indianettes outscored the Eagles, 17-3, after trailing 26-24 at the end of three. Mallory Mueller led the rally with 7 points and Kenzie Chance made four free throws.

The score was deadlocked at 9-9 at the end of the quarter with Bo Osburn scoring all of the points for BC prior to the Eagles going up 20-16 at the half.

Mueller led the Indianettes with 12 points. Coburn scored for the Eagles but just 2 in the second half.
