'Nettes win a wild one to cop Dist. Title
The Sacred Heart-St. Paul game which determined the TAPPS District 5 Division IV championship was a real stem-winder.
The Indianettes defeated the Lady Cardinals, 14- 13, Thursday
The Indianettes had what seemed like a comfortable 8-2 lead after four innings before SP tied the score at 8-8 with a six-run fifth inning.
SH came back with a four-run fifth inning which was capped by Ava Lackey’s three-run homer, her fifth of the season, to extend the margin to 12-8.
The Indianettes stretched the lead to 14-8 in the sixth frame on a RBI double by Avery Beach and a run scoring single by Rylan Dworsky.
But the Lady Cardinals were far from done.
St. Paul scored five runs in the seventh inning. Beach came in to get the final out to end the game and earn the save.
Ironically, Beach was the starting pitcher and was relieved by Ella Demel, who got the win.
SH scored two runs in the first inning when Demel hit the scoreboard in centerfield for a two-run homer, her sixth of the season
SP scored two runs in the second inning before the Indianettes put across six runs after four Lady Cardinals errors.
SH scored on a base hit by Kenzie Chance before the dam broke for the Lady Cardinals. A two-out error led to five unearned runs. Beach, Lackey and Madeline Kurtz had the only hits in the inning.
Demel finished threefor-five with three RBI.
The Indianettes slapped out 13 hits and SP 12.
Beach, Dworsky and Lackey had two hits apiece.
Kristin Cerny had three hits with three RBI for SP and Stefny Pokluda and Sloane Kocian two each.
The Indianettes had beaten SP 23-8 April 4.
