Phew! LBs edge Lytle, 4-3

KENEDY – The Hallettsville-Lytle one-game series in the area round of the 3A playoffs produced more suspense than the Lady Brahma fans cared to have.

Hanna Zachary’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 6th inning proved to be the winning run in a 4-3 Lady Brahma victory at Joe Gulley Park Thursday

Emma Davenport led off the 6th with a base hit to right and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Madison Mikes. Ky Lange’s single moved Davenport to third before Zachary’s fly ball to right field score Davenport with the game winner

Madison Mikes (12-0) pitched a complete game giving up 3 runs, 7 hits, 2 walks and struck out 8.

The Pirates (19-12-1) scored first in the initial inning

The score stayed 1-0 until the LB put across 2 runs in the 3rd. Zachary singled and scored on a triple by Ella Amsden. Katelyn Pustejovsky’s sacrifice fly allowed Amsden to score

The LB lead was increased to 3-1 in the 4th. Davenport, who was 2-for3, singled to lead off the frame and scored on a Lange base hit.

Like a bad headache, the Pirates would not go away and scored 2 runs in the 6th. One-out consecutive doubles by Elysa Aleåman, Gena Esparza and Natalie Pacheco scored the runs.

Mikes allowed a double with two outs in the 7th before getting Aleman to fly out to Zachary to end the game.

Davenport and Lange also had two hits apiece and Anissa Perez and Aleman two each for the Pirates.

Both teams stranded 7 baserunners.
