Sacred Heart in a 58-Point Turnaround
BRUNI – The Sacred Heart Indians found South Texas to its liking with a 38-0 romp over the Bruni Badgers Thursday night.
The game was a 58- point turnaround from last year’s 41-21 Bruni win.
“Overall, I was extremely pleased with our effort,” Head coach Alex Seydler said. “We came out with great enthusiasm and did well in all phases of the game.
“We did an excellent job of finishing drives and had a nice balanced attack. Special teams did a good job of flipping the field and keeping that in our favor.”
The Indians totaled 306 yards of offense and held Bruni to 198.
The Indians had zero turnovers which is really unexpected in just the second game of the season.
Junior quarterback Andrew Steffek blitzed the Badger secondary for 172 yards passing with 12 of 13 complications and two touchdowns.
The ground forces were led by halfback Brady Haas with 11 carries for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
The Indians scored on a 4-yard run by Haas with 3:45 left in the first quarter and Nic Angerstein kicked the point after.
SH had a 24-point outburst in the second period.
First, Klayton Chance hauled in a 57-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Steffek.
Haas scored on a 14- yard run with 6:27 remaining and Angerstein kicked a 19-yard field goal with five seconds to play in the first half.
Haas opened the third quarter scoring on a 40-yard scoring sprint and that was the scoring for the night.
“Bottom line, I believe our team is in a good place right now as we continue the journey and I remain extremely hopeful,” Seydler lamented.
