Shiner baseball: Comanches rout Bloomington to open district with win

    Shiner opened district with a rout of Bloomington and played two games in the Hallettsville Tournament last week.
    Saturday’s  Hallettsville Tournament game against Hallettsville was cancelled because of weather.

    Landen Christensen hit 3-for-3, home run, scored three runs and two RBI while Boe Boehm and Jake Simper each had three hits and scored three runs in Shiner’s 17-0 win over Bloomington March 3 in the district opener.
    Shiner had 20 hits and held Bloomington to two.
    Shiner led 8-0 after one inning, plated five runs in the second frame and scored four in the third.
    Charlie Clifford started at pitcher, worked one inning with three strikeouts; Christensen tossed one inning with two walks and two strikeouts; Clayton Fric pitched one inning with two hits, two strikeouts and Boehm worked one inning with one walk and three strikeouts.
    Clifford and Christensen each had one putout.

    Hallettsville Tournament

    The Comanche bats came alive in fourth and fifth innings to defeat Giddings 5-0 Friday afternoon.
    The Comanches scored three runs on seven hits in those two innings after scoring two runs in the bottom of the first.
    To start the fourth frame, Landen Christensen got a leadoff single and Boe Boehm got a hit.  Jake Simper doubled into left field to score Christensen and Boehm was out at home after the throw from left field. Jake Simper scored on his brother Lane’s single down the third-base line. 
    In the fifth inning, Charlie Clifford started things with a single and his runner, Tyler Harvey, stole two bases. Luke Dierlam singled in Harvey for the 5-0 lead. Cauy Herman also got a base hit but was unable to score as Giddings got out of the jam.
    In the bottom of the first inning, leadoff Jake Simper reached on an error. He stole second and went to third on Lane Simper’s flyball to left field. Catcher Jacob Nerada was walked. His runner Jarvis Williams was able to steal second while Jake Simper successfully stole home for a 1-0 Shiner lead. Williams moved on to third on Landyn Pohler’s sacrifice groundout. Williams gave Shiner a 2-0 lead when he scored on Luke Dierlam’s double down the first-base line.
    Clifford gave up one hit in the shutout with one walk and struck out 13 Buffalo batters.
    Dierlam got two hits to lead Shiner at the plate. On defense Christensen made three putouts.

    The Comanches brought in nine runs in the second inning to down Stockdale 11-0 in four innings to go 2-0 on the day.
    The second-inning deluge started when Clifford led off with a single; Dierlam reached on an error while Clifford went to second and then to third. Herman was walked; Clifford scored on Christensen single; Christensen and Herman each advanced another base on the throw. 
    Boehm then scored Herman on a single; a throw into the Shiner dugout let Christensen advance home and got Boehm to second.  Lane Simper then knocked in Boehm with a one-out hit. Nerada got a hit; Pohler’s single scored runner Tyler Harvey for a 6-0 Shiner lead.  Clifford then grounded out to shortstop to score Williams. Dierlam’s double down the third-base line got Pohler home. Dierlam went home on the RBI double by Herman.
    In the fourth inning, Nerada and Pohler were walked. Clifford scored Williams and Pohler on two-run double to end the game.
    In the top of the first, Stockdale got a leadoff single by Trent Gordon. The next batter, Mason Almedia, hit the ball to Christensen at first base. Christensen threw to shortstop Clifford on the fielder’s choice. For the next two Brahma batters, it was the same play back-to-back: the batter hit to second baseman Clayton Fric who then relayed to Clifford to get the runner heading to second out.
    Clifford and Lane Simper each got two hits. Lane Simper pitched three innings with one hit and two strikeouts while Dierlam closed out the fourth inning, yielding one hit.
    On the defensive side, Christensen had five putouts and one assist.
