Shiner baseball: Comanches win three at Hallettsville tourney

Shiner won its first district game and went 3-1 in the Hallettsville Tournament

Jake Simper went 4-for-4 with three runs, one home run, double and five RBI to help Shiner post a 16-0 win at Bloomington on March 3 to open district play. Landen Christensen got two hits, both doubles, to go along with two runs and two RBI. Carson Schuette hit 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Simper pitched two innings with five strikeouts while Clayton Fric worked two frames with a walk  and four strikeouts to combine for a no-hit shutout.
Shiner started strong with nine runs in the first inning and two runs in each of the second and third innings.
The Comanches scored three runs in the fourth inning.

Hallettsville Tournament
Shiner 6, Navarro 5
The Comanches scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a 3-3 tie and endured two late runs to edge Navarro 6-5 Thursday to open the Hallettsville Tournament.
The Comanches led 2-1 after the first inning and 3-2 after each team scored one in the third box.
The Panthers scored a run in the top of the fourth before Shiner got a trio in the bottom of the inning and Navarro scored one in the fifth and once in the seventh.
At the plate, Jacob Nerada was 2-for-4, Charlie Clifford hit 1-for-3 with two runs and Landen Christensen finished 1-for-2 with one run.
Christensen pitched seven innings with five runs on five hits, one batter hit, six walks and five strikeouts.

Clifford went 3 for-3 with a run and RBI as Shiner won its second Thursday game with a 7-2 score over the Giddings Buffaloes.
Lane Simper pitched seven frames with two runs on four hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Christensen had five putouts in the field.
Schuette started things at the top of the first with a walk. He stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball; Schuette went home on Clifford’s first hit.
Both teams went in order in the second frame.
In the top of the third, Jake Simper got a two-out single, followed by a Clifford hit to left field. Jacob Nerada doubled to right field to put Shiner ahead 3-0.
In the fourth inning, Cauy Herman singled and later scored on Boe Boehm’s ground out to second base.
Giddings started their fourth time at bat with a single by Corbin Medack and then one by Brandon Burgdorf. Gunnar Fromme brought in Medack with a single and Burgdorf went home on a sacrifice from Austen Marth.
In the fifth frame, Jake Simper reached on an error and later scored on another error. Shiner went up 7-2 in the sixth inning as Caleb Lehnert got a hit and scored from third on a single from Schuette, who later went home on a Boehm fly ball to center.
Shiner had one double play on defense — in the sixth inning, Burgdorf got a one-out walk.  Fromme hit a ball to Schuette at shortstop who got the out on Burgdorf and then turned the double play with a pass to Christensen at first.

Clifford went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs as Shiner squeezed out a 12-10 win over Brazos on Saturday.
The score was 1-1 after one and Shiner led 3-1 after two innings. 
The Comanches outscored the Cougars 4-1 in the third; Shiner added a run in the fourth frame and outscored Brazos 4-2 in the fifth inning.
The Cougars got back in the game with six runs in the top of the fifth but coud not completely close the gap.

The host Brahmas allowed just two runs and two hits in an 18-2 win over the Comanches later on Saturday. The Brahmas led 3-1 after one inning, outscored Shiner 4-1 in the second before scoring five in the third and six in the fourth. Christensen went 1-for-2 with one run and Clifford had one hit. Schuette scored one run.
