Shiner baseball: Peterson makes 14 starts for Bearkats baseball in 2025

Shiner Class of 2023 member and Sam Houston State University sophomore Ryan Peterson saw action in over a dozen games during the recent 2025 season.
His first start was Feb. 14 against Missouri State in the opener of a three-game series at home where he worked five innings, four hits, three runs, three earned runs, four walks, eight strikeouts, four doubles, 22 batters faced, 81 pitches and 5.40 ERA as SHSU fell 11-6 with Peterson taking the loss (0-1).
His next game and start was Feb. 21 at home in the first game of a three-game series  against  New Jersey Institute of Technology. Peterson pitched five innings, five hits, four runs, two earned runs, one walk, two strikeouts, one double, one triple, one wild pitch, four hit by pitch, 26 batters faced, 77 pitches and 3.60 ERA with the Bearkats taking a 9-5 loss and he dropped to 0-2 on the year.
On defense, he had three chances, one putout, one assist and one error for .667 fielding and allowed one stolen base.
He started the Feb. 28 against Nebraska in the Frisco Classic tournament in Frisco, falling to 0-3 on the season as SHSU lost 8-3, with six innings pitched, six hits, four runs, three earned runs, three walks, six strikeouts,  two home runs, 26 batters faced, 96 pitches and 4.50 ERA.
In the field, he had two chances and two assists for 1.00 fielding with one caught stealing base.
Peterson got the start March 7 at Oklahoma in the opener of a three-game series, going five innings, seven hits, three runs, three earned runs, three strikeouts, five doubles, one home run, 22 batters faced, 93 pitches and a 5.40 ERA as the ‘Kats fell 6-5 and Peterson dropped to 0-4.
In the field, he had one assist on one chance for 1.000 fielding.
He played in the March 14 contest against Abilene Christian to start a home three-game series, working six innings, 10 hits, six runs, six earned runs, two walks, nine strikeouts, one double, one triple, three home runs, one wild pitch, two hit by pitch, 31 batters faced, 108 pitches and 9.00 ERA with the ‘Kats losing 13-6 and Peterson falling to 0-5. In the field, he allowed two stolen bases.
Against Louisiana Tech March 22 in the second game of a three-game series, he went seven innings, six hits, three runs, three earned runs, two walks, six strikeouts, one triple, one hit by pitch, 29 batters faced, 107 pitches and 3.86 ERA, picking up his first win of the season (1-5) and SHSU won 7-4.  
In the field, he had one chance, one putout and 1.000 fielding.
Peterson played in the March 29 road game (the second game of a three-game series) against Western Kentucky University, pitching six innings, six hits, three runs, two walks, four strikeouts, two doubles, one hit by pitch, 26 batters faced, 94 pitches and 0.00 ERA to fall to 1-6 on the year as the ‘Kats lost 9-0.
He had two chances, one assist, one error, .500 fielding, two stolen bases allowed and one caught stealing base.
He got the nod against New Mexico State on April 5 in the second game of a three-game series with seven innings, six hits, three runs, three earned runs, four walks, 10 strikeouts, two doubles, one hit by pitch, 32 batters faced, 122 pitches and 3.86 ERA as the ‘Kats won 9-6. In the field, he had one chance, one putout for 1.00 fielding.
Peterson played against Kennesaw State on April 12 in the second game of a three-game home series, going four innings, with four hits, five runs, five earned runs, four walks, six strikeouts, three doubles, one hit by pitch,  22 batters faced, 83 pitches and 11.25 ERA as SHSU lost 10-0 and he fell to 1-7.
On defense, he had two chances, one putout, one assist, 1.000 fielding and three stolen bases allowed.
In the April 19 game at Dallas Baptist University in the finale of a three-game series, Peterson pitched 3 1/3 innings, nine hits, nine runs, eight earned runs, two walks, three strikeouts, four doubles,  three home runs, two hit by pitch, 24 batters faced, 87 pitches and 21.6 ERA to fall to 1-8 and the ‘Kats came up short 14-4.
In the field, he had three chances, one putout, one assist, one error and  .667 fielding,
He played in the April 26 contest at Jacksonville State in the second game of a three-game series, going three innings, eight hits, eight runs, seven earned runs, one walk, four strikeouts, one double, one home run, two hit by pitch, 20 batters faced, 76 pitches, 21.00 ERA as SHSU lost 21-10. In the field, he allowed one stolen base.
In the May 3 game against Liberty University, the second game of a three-game series at home, Peterson pitched seven innings, three hits, two walks, five strikeouts, two doubles, 26 batters faced, 106 pitches and 0.00 ERA in the SHUS 7-1 win that improved Peterson 2-8 on the season and also earned him  CUSA Pitcher of the Week on May 5.
In the field, he allowed one stolen base.
Peterson pitched five innings in the second game of a three-game series at Middle Tennessee State on May 10 with six hits, three runs, two earned runs, one walk, six strikeouts, one double, one home run, two hit by pitch, 25 batters faced, 88 pitches and 3.60 ERA in the ‘Kats 11-6 loss.
His last action of the season came May 17 against Florida International University in the closer of a three-game series at home with 3 2/3 innings pitched, five hits, six runs, six earned runs, four walks, three strikeouts, one double, one home run, one hit by pitch, 20 batters faced, 78 pitches and 14.73 ERA to fall to 2-9 SHSU’s 10-5 loss. In the field, he had two chances, one putout, one assist, 1.000 fielding, two stolen bases allowed and one caught stealing base.
For the season,  Peterson played in 14 games, starting all of them and posted a pitching record of 2-9 with 73 innings pitched, 86 hits,  60 runs, 51 earned runs, 32 walks, 75 strikeouts, 27 doubles, three triples, 12 home runs, faced 351 batters who had a batting average of  .291, two wild pitches, 17 batters hit, two sacrifice flyballs and four sacrifice hits.
In the field, Peterson had 17 chances, six putouts, eight assists and three errors for .824 fielding along with 12 stolen bases allowed and three caught stealing base.
