Shiner baseball:Shiner nine win runner up at Appelt Tournament
The Shiner Comanches won three of four and placed second at the Hallettsville Jimmy Appelt Tournament last week.

Kaiden Boothe held Natalia Mustang to three hits and struck out 13 batters as the Comanches sank Natalia 13-0 Thursday to open the tournament in Hallettsville.
Shiner scored four in the bottom of the second to end a scoreless game, plated five runs in teh third inning, and two each in the fourth and fifth frames.
Drew Wenske led the Comanches bats with two hits, one run, one triple and one double. Landyn Pohler scored three runs.
With Boothe’s 13 batters fanned, center fielder Ryan Peterson and first baseman Keenan Hailey had the only putouts with shortstop Wenske getting one assist.

Peterson pitched a one-hit shutout with one walk and struck out 11 as Shiner won 4-0 against Anderson-Shiro Friday afternoon.
Shiner scored once in the first frame, went ahead 2-0 after five and scored twice in the sixth.
Wenske led at the plate with a triple and one run.
Hailey made three putouts on defense.

Port Lavaca Calhoun rallied to edge Shiner 5-2 later on Friday afternoon.
Shiner was down 1-0 after the first inning but scored twice in the second before the Sandcrabs scored three runs in the third and added another in the fifth inning.
Peterson got two hits. Carson Schuette pitched 2/3 innings with one run, four walks; Pohler chucked two innings with two runs, five walks and five strikeouts; Cale Shows went 2 1/3 innings with three hits, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts. Hailey led the defense with four putouts.

Shiner and Hallettsville played in the final tournament game on Saturday evening with the Comanches avenging a loss to the Brahmas in the regular-season opener with a 5-1 win.
Shiner took command in the third with three runs and added one run in the fifth and sixth before Hallettsville avoided a shutout with one score in the bottom of the sixth.
Wenske struck out nine Brahmas while ceding one run on six hits and two walks. He and Peterson had Shiner’s hits of the game with Wenske scoring two runs. Hailey made eight putouts in the field.
