Shiner football: Comanches face Ben Bolt in first round

The Shiner Comanches (10-0, 5-0) kick off the playoffs at 7 p.m. tonight in Kenedy against the Ben Bolt Badgers, the fourth-place team in District 16-2ADII.
“We are in the playoffs now so we have to make sure we take of business in this game,” Comanches head coach Daniel Boedeker said.
The Badgers are 3-6 (0-3) and have scored 24 points a game while yielding 38.66 points a game.
The Badgers will likely throw a lot of passes against Shiner.
“They are good with the quick-passing game,” Boedeker said. “We need to get them into long downs because it will be hard to get a good pass rush as quarterback Christian Chalupa throws the ball very quickly after taking the snap.”
Shiner expects the Badgers to load the box up to stop the run game.
“They will come out in a 5-3 look and they have good size on the line,” Boedeker said. “Our offensive line needs to stay on blocks well, and we cannot have mistakes like turnovers and penalties.”
Other key players for Ben Bolt are RB-LB Noah Perez, OL-DL Walker, WR-LB Oryian Elizalde and DE Preston Ables.
In the last 20 years, the Comanches have played Ben Bolt five times, going 4-1.
Shiner won in the playoffs in 2005 (16-0), 2006, (27-0) and 2007 (48-0). Ben Bolt won 27-21 in the 2010 regular season and Shiner won the most recent meetup in 2011, 27-23.
