Brahmas end Comanches' 30-game win streak
Hallettsville’s Damarion Austin’s 32-yard run with just 10 minutes left in the third quarter broke a 7-7 tie and was the difference in the Shiner Comanches falling a little short at Hallettsville, 14-7, to open the 2022 season.
The loss was the first for the Comanches since the third round of the 2019 playoffs to end a 30-game win streak and was just the second for fourth-year head coach Daniel Boedeker.
The Comanches got on the board first on a three-yard run by senior running back Dalton Brooks with 2:06 left in the opening frame.
The Brahma tied the game in the second quarter on a five-yard run from Layne Gerke.
Brooks led the Shiner offense with 135 yards on 26 carries and Beck Bishop had 51 yards on 11 carries. Quarterback Ryan Peterson completed 3-of-9 passes for 8 yards.
Austin was the leading rusher for Hallettsville with 93 yards on nine carries.
