Shiner football: Jones, Shiner downs Luling Eagles, 48-7
Quincy Jones had only seven rushes against Luling but ran for 213 yards and three touchdowns as Shiner (5-0) capped non district with a 48-7 win Friday in Luling.
Clayton Fric played a supporting role with 97 rushing yards and two touchdowns while Tyler Harvey added 23 yards and two touchdowns.
The Comanche defense intercepted two passes while forcing seven punts and holding the Eagles to 161 offensive yards and eight first downs.
Luling’s offense was led by Malik LeBlanc who caught four passes for 76 yards and the lone Luling touchdown. Haven Montana led in rushing with 33 yards on nine carries. Quarterback Gary Cantu went 4-of-9 passing for 82 yards and one touchdown.
Jones provided the Comanche touchdowns in the first frame with runs of 36 and 53 yards to put Shiner ahead 14-0. In the second quarter, Cantu connected with LeBlanc on a 53-yard touchdown pass at the 8:22 mark.
Jones got his third touchdown with a 79-yard run at the 8:01 mark. Fric and Harvey each added a touchdown run, 17 and 1 yards respectively, in the second frame to give the Comanches a 35-7 halftime lead. Shiner outscored Luling 13-0 in the third period with a 13-run by Harvey and a 57-yard jaunt by Fric.
Shiner is open this week and starts district Oct. 10 with Homecoming game against Charlotte.
