Shiner football: Palmer returning to Pleasanton to lead Eagles football team

Shiner football offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach and head boys track coach Randy Palmer is returning to his roots.
Palmer was recently named the head football coach at his alma mater, the Pleasanton Eagles.
“I am excited to return to my hometown and serve as head football coach,” he said. “At the same time, it is bittersweet to be leaving Shiner. I’ve made a lot of great friendships and great memories. It is a great community. Meeting and working for and with the school district officials, teachers, community, Coach (Daniel) Boedeker) and the rest of the coaching staff and all of the athletes and students.”
Palmer first came to Shiner for the 2017-18 school year and in addition to football and track, has also served as assistant boys basketball coach and head boys golf.
He said he has a lot of great memories of coaching in Shiner including winning state titles in football and boys track.
The biggest memories for him was family and winning awards for the overall athletic performances.
“The best memory for me was watching my children Tyler and Brooke go through high school,” Palmer said. “Watching Tyler play in front of me on Friday nights and Brooke behind me, supporting. It was great seeing Tyler win state in football and Brooke be part of a state championship band and One Act Play. Another big thing was helping Shiner ISD win two Lone Star Cups. That takes the whole school district and town getting involved to win that.”
The Pleasanton Eagles have had some tough years lately and Palmer is ready to help them bounce back.
“They have gone 3-7 and 4-6 over the last two seasons. I want to raise the standards higher and make goals that the athletes can work to reach daily,” he said.
Palmer is 1994 graduate of Pleasanton and attended college at Texas A&M KIngsville.
He has coached in Pleasanton as offensive coordinator before taking over as head coach at nearby Poteet and then Three Rivers before coming to Shiner.
Palmer has been married to his wife Jodie for 25 years.
