Shiner football: Poth Pirates survive Shiner 21-14

    The Poth Pirates scored 21 second-quarter points to prevent an upset loss against Shiner Friday in Poth, winning 21-14.
    Shiner led 7-0 after one quarter but trailed 21-7 at halftime. The Comanches got within one score halfway through the fourth quarter while keeping the Pirates off the scoreboard in the second half.
    The Comanches had a good day offensively, save for two lost fumbles, as they ran 53 times for 226 yards, led by Quincy Jones and Caleb Cowan who each had 71 yards and one touchdown; Caleb Lehnert added 59 yards on 13 carries. Carson Schuette completed 7-of-14 passes for 84 yards. Bode Werner had three catches for 51 yards.
    The Comanche defense grabbed an interception and held Poth to under 300 yards of offense.
    Shiner opened scoring in the first quarter on a 5-yard run by Jones.
    The Pirates tied the game barely two minutes into the second quarter on a 29-yard pass from Major Luna to Nick Neudorfer foe 29 yards.
    The Pirates went up 14-7 with 5:49 left in the half on a 60-yard completion from Luna to Colin Ramzinski and scored on a third straight possession with a 14-yard run by Kane Stover.
    The second half was devoid of any scoring until 7:56 left in the game with a 7-yard run by Cowan to cap a 15-play, 61-yard drive.
